    Life Magazine by Cold Cave

A bright sound fills this urban electro-pop song from Cold Cave’s new album Loves Comes Close.  In the past I had always found that Cold Cave’s dark synth pushed me away from buying their full length albums.  However, with the late takeoff of synth-fused happy music, Cold Cave has put their past beside them and produced a thrilling song for the new age electro indie crowd, such as myself, with “Life Magazine”.  Hopefully Loves Comes Close will prove to be a full transgression into the future of “Life Magazine”.

Trade A Line by Au Revoir Simone

Beautiful, this video doesn’t do the song justice. This song titled “Trace A Line” is off their latest Album, released May ’09, Still Night, Still Light.  I’ve recently spent a lot of time listening to this album and will be featuring a full review Sunday.  Stay tuned.

    Casa Bey by Mos Def

Mos Def’s The Ecstatic, released June ’09, must live up to the hype that follows three years of inactivity.   I saw Mos Def live at Sasquatch two weeks before his album dropped.  To be honest he looked unmotivated and his stage presence was closer to that of a super model than a musician.  However, one week following the concert 90′s nostalgia kicked in and I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.  While I’m still too unprepared to write an Album Review, what I can say is that Mos Def is a better studio artist than he is a live performer.  My favorite track thus far off The Ecstatic has been “Casa Bey”, I’ve added it to several of my playlists and it grows on me with every playback.  Other reviews I’ve read say that Mos Def has adopted a worldly sound with his latest album, however I found that “Casa Bey” uses little more than traditional Jazz instruments.  Enjoy!

Ivan Ives – Villain Official Video

The first single from Ivan Ives’s new album NEWSPEAK features more truth be told lyrics from my favorite white rapper. The beat is fresh and the hook is addicting. Ivan Ives raves on as a top notch underground rapper, I’m excited to see what else he has in store for us with NEWSPEAK. Stay tuned.

    So Insane by Discovery

Discovery, one of those new age hybrid groups, features Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist-singer-producer Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles. This album does T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Kanye West justice by plaguing yet another music genre with autotune. But are they really? Or are we just blessed that this hybrid album is actually worth listening to and possibly even buying? This is one of those confusing times in music. Do we play it at all our indie kid parties because we love the 80′s electronic synths or do we shame it for its lack of originality and purpose? I’ll be the first to admit that I listened to and bought T-Pain’s “Rapper Turnt Sanga” and I’ll also be the first to tell all you music snobs to keep your opinions to yourself because I have day dreams to get back to and they’d be spoiled if I weren’t listening to this new track,  So Insane.

Simian Mobile Disco – I believe

Simian Mobile Disco once a rock group, went electro pop with their 2007 album “Attack Decay Sustain Release”, and they hope to continue that trend with their next release “Temporary Pleasure” due out August 18th. “I Believe” is perhaps their best song from Attack Decay Sustain Release. Use it to sedate yourself to its mesmerizing rhythmic beats or start a party amongst an Indie crowd. It is the kind of song that puts you in a good mood, and that is why it is my song of the year, for 2007 that is…

    Röyksopp is back with Junior

What Else is There? (Thin White Duke Remix) was one of my favorite tracks of 05/06.  I believe it was Gabriel & Dresden that dropped it for me for the first time during an Organized Nature radio broadcast.  Here are their two newest singles from the album Junior, released back in March it will be followed by another album Senior to be released by the end of the year.  I thoroughly enjoy “The Girl and The Robot” with vocals by Robyn, and “Happy Up Here”  with its music video totally gives me a somewhat Gorillaz feel that I hope never ends.
