    Hey Champ – Winner’s Circle 

    Hey look! Hey Champ finally dropped their impressive remix project, leaving little to the expectant heart following the success of the internationally acclaimed single, “Cold Dust Girl”, previously earning them a spot alongside Lupe Fiasco, who signed them to his own 1st & 15th record label in 2008.

    Hey Champ pt. II 

    For some the Summer has already ended and Autumn has already begun turning your favorite deciduous into a giant fire cracker, but here in Seattle it appears we have at least one more week of summer fun. The next couple Hey Champ songs feel like the perfect summer send off – 80′s electro pop beats that get better by night.

    Live Music Review: NPSH and Hey Champ 

    NPSH:  I met two people at the Crocodile Cafe Thursday night that had already seen NPSH three times in 2009 and couldn’t wait for their show that night.  I have no idea what other types of music they listen to but I can tell you they have horrible taste.  Simply put, NPSH is a bunch of kids that sound like a bunch of kids.  I’ll give them credit for being high energy but I have never wanted to leave a live show that quickly or ever really.  In fact, the entire group of people I went with couldn’t stand another second of it and we bailed after forcing ourselves through five songs.

    Hey Champ:  It’s too bad NPSH was the headliner because Hey Champ rocked despite the terrible acoustics that haunt this classic seattle venue.  It’s no wonder Lupe Fiasco’s record label signed them last month.  I can’t wait to get a chance to hear them open in a larger venue and for them to finish their LP.

      Hmm… Let’s see… one of the people who were stoked to see NPSH was a former Universal Motown exec now working for an Outside Lands headliner, and you… started a blog. Maybe someone who has signed bands in the past has a tad more taste than yourself. Good luck with all this, you pompous moron.

        Gotta love hate mail – especially when it is written so meaninglessly that the commentor, “You’re A. Idiot” fails to make a single point. NPSH was bad whether you have deep pockets or not. Feel free to explain what exactly was so worth my time about listening to NPSH and I’ll send you a cookie. They clearly have talent and creativity but their performance wasn’t inspirational, wasn’t original, and wasn’t entertaining. It felt like a talent show piece at a High School Assembly.

        I don’t really know what you mean by “and you… started a blog.” Is that supposed to be demeaning or something, if so – FAIL. Yeah, I write a blog and you felt inclined to comment on it so clearly it is serving more of a purpose than one of the 10,000 former Universal Motown execs. Anyone who starts a comment by listing off their “qualifications” is a narcissistic douche rocket, and you know what NDRs get? A big fucking – Child, Please!

        Apparently I’m not the only one down on NPSH. From “The Worst of Bumbershoot” at TinyMixtapes.com comes this review:

        “- Natalie Portman’s Shave Head Speaking of irony, I get it — spandex, hypercolor and bicycle shorts are back in a big way for rave-pop. Sadly, Seattle already has one terrible ’80s synth dance knock-off (the dreadful U.S.E), and while NPSH may house a slightly larger contingent thanks to a modicum of indie blog success, their show was steeped in sluggish attitudes — from both band and crowd — and a sense of irony so overflowing the Bumbershoot wanderers were more likely to be drenched from it than from the downpours that plagued Seattle Center intermittently all weekend.”

    Yeah, that’s the name of the band, “Cold Dust Girl” is the name of their song but it certainly isn’t their only track that makes you want to get drunk on a beach, these guys are definitely on to something…
