Boys Noise – JEFFER
Yeah, you’ve heard this song 30 times over on Hype Machine mixed and mashed with your favorite tracks and you can’t wait to see Boys Noize Live – this I know… But have you seen dance moves like these?

Some predicted a big 2009 for The XX back in January when they released “Teardrops”, their first single. Given that their sound can lull some to sleep I thought they may never climb the indie charts – until now. Pariah just did a remix of their song “Basic Space” and it’s catching on quickly. Don’t forget their LP, XX, was released yesterday.

Soft synths bring the beat from a cool breeze to a warm humid day on the Florida coast, it’s quite a trip. The lyrics are equally potent, they remind me of Citizen Cope – touching, oddly romantic and yet upbeat. This is all very impressive for a band of 19 year olds, their sound is certainly beyond their years. I’ve put up three songs after the break, head on by for a preview of what you can expect to find on their new album ‘XX‘ due out in a few days.
Wow, can’t wait for the album.
From the album dubbed Kitsune Maison Compliation 7 comes a remix of “I’ll Get You” by Classixx ft Jeppe and Kitsune X Cobrasnake. Another very poppy electronic indie from France’s remix superstore, Kitsune Maison. The chorus rings “do you like bass?” to which you may reply, “yes, actually I do…” Otherwise this track is digital garbage. Hit the (more) link and take a listen after the break.
Enjoy!

In no particular order, here are the must have albums of 2009 – some may have been released in ’08 as with the Vampire Weekend LP – it is never too late to own a great album!
Forget the description, I instead added a track from every album so you can have a listen for yourself
1) Thievery Corporation – Radio Retaliation
“Fences” is a smooth thumping summer tune featuring the wispy vocals of Thomas Mars and the airy sounds that this French rock band prefers. “Fences” is my favorite song from Phoenix’s new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Many of you may have heard their more popular single release on iTunes back in February, “Lisztomania”; I believe this song outdoes the midwinter single with clever lyrics and a more unique sound, one that better puts paint to Mars’ canvas.
Mos Def’s The Ecstatic, released June ’09, must live up to the hype that follows three years of inactivity. I saw Mos Def live at Sasquatch two weeks before his album dropped. To be honest he looked unmotivated and his stage presence was closer to that of a super model than a musician. However, one week following the concert 90′s nostalgia kicked in and I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon. While I’m still too unprepared to write an Album Review, what I can say is that Mos Def is a better studio artist than he is a live performer. My favorite track thus far off The Ecstatic has been “Casa Bey”, I’ve added it to several of my playlists and it grows on me with every playback. Other reviews I’ve read say that Mos Def has adopted a worldly sound with his latest album, however I found that “Casa Bey” uses little more than traditional Jazz instruments. Enjoy!
